Porto Koufo

The Porto Koufo is a bay whose head is a natural small harbour with a south-to-north entry direction and is located in the Toronean Gulf. It is the deepest and safest natural harbour in Halkidiki. It has a high traffic of fishing and tourist boats.

Within the bay, several smaller coves are created, the most important being that of the cove and the cove "Goura", which is located opposite the ruins of the once large Turkish barracks. The edges of the entrance are high, about 90 m high and rocky.

The entrance of Porto Koufo bay is not visible from the sea, so there are two lighthouses on either side of the entrance. During the day, safe entry is achieved by aligning the middle of the entrance with the Tricrano peak of Athos. It is the "Deaf limin" of the ancient Greeks, as mentioned by Thucydides.
